Dear CDNIS Community,

On behalf of the Board of Governors, I would like to welcome you and your family to the new school year.

Let me begin by extending my congratulations to the Class of 2013 on their remarkable IB results. Our students achieved an overall average of 36 points, which is the highest average since the school's first IB Diploma class graduated in 2010. During the graduation ceremony in June, I encouraged our graduates to continue maintaining connections with CDNIS. They should be proud of being a 'CDNIS graduate'.

This fall, we will launch the inaugural 'CDNIS Annual Fund', which will primarily support additional programmes and projects not covered by our standard curriculum and programmes which cater for all students. I understand parents and staff have provided many great ideas during the consultation process and additional ideas are always welcome. Please visit the 'Giving' section on the CDNIS website to learn more. I encourage all members of our community to support this worthwhile initiative.

CDNIS is always striving to improve the learning environment for its students and I would like to share with you some of the recent enhancements. The school has once again allocated significant resources and effort to recruit, develop and retain quality teachers and have improved the student to academic staff ratio to 8.6:1 as of August 2013, compared to 9.8:1 four years ago. The school continues to invest substantially in technology, which includes the revamp of the school-wide Wi-Fi network over the summer and the purchase of over 400 iPads for use by our students. Construction of an additional floor above the library began over the summer and the new floor will be used as a Chinese Studies Centre, comprising classrooms and common areas.

The Board will continue to focus its strategic priorities on the 4Cs: Connectivity, Culture, Care and Corporate-Governance. Over the past year, the Board made good progress towards the 4Cs and in particular worked hard to strengthen its connectivity with various stakeholders. This year, the Board will focus on developing a strong 'CDNIS Culture', which includes harmony, bonding, happiness, quality learning and development, academic excellence and most importantly pride in being part of CDNIS.

I am grateful for your support and encouragement during the past year. I look forward to another year in which students will enjoy rewarding academics and participate in an array of exciting extracurricular activities. Feel free to drop me an email if you would like to connect and share your insights as to how we can do better as a school to respond to the needs of our students and parents.

With sincere thanks and warm regards,

Kennedy Liu
Chairman, Board of Governors
